Queer / Symbiotic

Lichens, a symbiosis between a fungus and algae and/or cyanobacteria, make great case studies for the connection between queerness and coexistence in nature. After collecting some samples on a walk, I wanted to mirror the collaborative act of creation the lichens engage in by stitching into scanned images of them. Queerness and symbiosis are a large part of my in-progress Masters thesis.
